For Sale - Alpine SkiBikes SkiBike Conversion #2 - £350

This is the second of a pair of skibikes for sale built by a fan of this Blog. Sadly they have been virtually unused ever since, skibiking may not be for everybody, it wasn't for him, but if it's for you then this is your chance to buy a ready to ride skibike for much less than the cost of the individual components.

For sale - a pair of Alpine Skibikes mtb conversions for £350 each

Using the design philosophy of Wayne Richards and his ever popular "DIY Skibike Design" series of articles as a skibike builders bible, he religiously followed all the same principles.

As Wayne recommends the frame is a basic Y shaped full suspension frame, this shape makes for very convenient loading on the chairlift; you can even sit on some chairs with the skibike between your legs without causing fouling, just like a pro.

It is a 16” frame measured from the centre of the crank to the seat post, constructed from aluminium it is both strong and corrosion resistant. The overall weight is 13.1 Kg.

For sale - 18" frame skibike

The forks are basic 1 1/8” units, possibly by RST or Zoom with 100mm or 4" of travel with BMX handlebars mounted on an Ahead stem.

The rear suspension is a basic coil sprung, un-damped unit with an eye to eye distance of 155 mm.

For sale - skibike ready to ride for £350

The skis fitted are Brenter a market leading brand which should need no introduction.

Obviously there is nothing state of the art about this combination, but then neither is the asking price, which even includes delivery within the UK.

The beauty of this style of skibike conversion is the way you can upgrade parts to a much better specification easily and very economically by trawling eBay, mountain bike forums and Facebook groups for unwanted new or second hand parts.

This Alpine Skibikes skibike conversion has been priced at £350 for a quick sale, the price includes delivery within the UK. It can be sent to some European locations too, but please ask for a quote first as this could be quite a high sum.

It is rare to find freestyle skibikes offered for sale in the UK, especially a matching pair, stock is limited to these two skibikes, so don't hang about if this is what you need for your next winter holiday.

Here is a link to the first skibike of the pair.

With prior arrangement they can also be seen as follows:

For Sale - Winter X Bike SkiBike Conversion Kits - New Old Stock

It is said that every cloud has a silver lining. Some recent health issues gave me cause to take advantage of the services of Dr. Robert, Croydon's very own skibiking chiropractor. To say that he is a skibike enthusiast would be an understatement, his passion borders on obsession.

My visits gave him a good reason to dig out some new old stock original Winter X Bike skibike conversion kits which he had bought as a batch but never got round to installing all of them. If you are new to the skibike scene you may not be aware that Winter X Bike was the first iteration of Matt Hanson's designs, these have since been re-branded as Alpine Skibikes.

On offer is one complete kit, including the skis and foot pegs; furthermore there is a second set of adapter triangles only.
These adapters are the first generation model, so you they have 9mm axles, although you can still buy adaptors from Alpine Skibikes to run 15mm and 20mm through axle style forks too. The rear axle length is 170 mm with spacing of 135 mm for the rear triangle.

For Sale - Winter X Bike skibike conversion kit

The labelling on the packaging dated these units to 2005, none have been used, but they have been stored for a decade in a loft.
As a result there is light corrosion on the plated parts and ski edges. You could clean this off with metal polish if their appearance was that offensive to you. I would have done this myself but the demands of the blog tour made it impossible before departure day.

Light corrosion on the plated parts from a decade of storage

The aluminium parts are all in mint condition and very sparkly!

Dr. Robert doesn't want these parts sold off at yard sale prices, he would like the equivalent of the price these parts would cost if bought in the USA at today's prices. For US based readers of this blog it would make no sense to buy these parts; but for European Union based members these prices will be a substantial saving over the regular price. Anything imported from outside of the European Economic Area is subject to courier fees, handling fees, import duties @ 2.5% of the net value and VAT @ 20%. Do the mathematics, this is a good deal.

Adapters only - £136 or €186

The cost for the complete kit of adapters, skis and foot-pegs will be £340 or €465 - SORRY NOW SOLD OUT.

The cost for adapters only will be £136 or €186 - ONLY ONE PAIR LEFT! This price includes delivery to a UK address. I can send to some European locations too, but please ask for a quote first as this could be quite a high sum.

If you have any further questions, please leave a comment or send a message.

For Sale - Custom Built Freestyle Skibike - £450

Custom freestyle skibike for sale - Just £450

The original " Green Beastie " skibike is up for sale, it was a stunningly good skibike right from the start and would suit any beginner to intermediate ski biker. It has an excellent complement of components; with a Magura Odin air rear shock and Rock Shox Judy up front. It has about 150 mm suspension front and rear, the rear has multiple adjustments for your weight and style and at the front, a basic coil spring with pre-load and oil damping. Both haven't missed a beat even in some really cold conditions.

Custom freestyle skibike for sale - 150 mm of suspension travel

At under 10 kg it is light in weight, compared to even the latest American skibikes, including the skis. Its in very good condition, as it was powder coated in 2012 and hasn't been used much since.

MX style folding footpegs - a neat upgrade over normal bike pegs

This is a very easy skibike to learn on and yet solid enough not to get damaged it rides very well too. With its Y shape, it fits the lifts well and with the low top bar, the canopies can be closed on the latest Euro lifts, which does keep the other lift users happy on a cold day.

It can be easily dismantled and fits into a large suitcase, or as I prefer, a wheeled golf travel bag, together with your boots and clothes to travel on an aircraft. At  10 kg, it does leave enough clothes allowance to not need to book another bag.

Its presently fitted with Salomon Snowblades and carbon ski adaptors. The skis will be fully serviced ready to go. The Snowblades are probably a bit narrow for off-piste skibike riding, but never the less, I have spent many a happy day in powder.
Would I change to a wider pair? Probably not if you are learning, but eventually you will fit a wider pair if you are regularly going off-piste. I have a pair of wider Salomon SB10s which you could purchase from me for an additional £50.

So how much will this custom made skibike gem cost you? Just £450 ready to go. If you're interested, please use the contact form to send me a message, or leave a comment below, or join me on the Blog Facebook Group.

Regards

Wayne.

I have included some videos so you can get a flavour of what its like on the snow, enjoy:

January Sales - 30% price reduction on ex-demo NISM skibike skiboards

Here's some good news to kick off 2015 with a bang, our limited stock of NISM ex-demo skibike skiboards are now 30% off their original asking price.

The price for the NISM 100cm "All Mountain" skibike skiboards is now £164.50 delivered (were £235)

And the price for smaller NISM 90cm "Park" skibike skiboards is now £154 delivered (were £220)

Please remember these are not skinny "SnowBlade™" style skis, they are wide skibike specific ski boards. I have checked on eBay and elsewhere, nothing like these are currently available in the UK. Even if you can find similar items in the USA, don't be fooled by low prices shown in Dollars. Once you have paid the courier costs (£25+), import duty (2.7% of value), VAT (20% of value) and sundry other "incidental" costs, the real price could be nearly doubled.
Skibike spares are not exactly plentiful in the UK, stocks are limited to just the one pair of each size and it is highly unlikely that further items will be available, so don't tarry if this is what you need for your skibike project.

For Sale - NISM 100cm Skibike Skiboards - Down to £164.50

I am in the position of being able to offer a pair of ex demo NISM 100cm Snow Bike specific skis for sale. Marketed by NISM skibikes as an "all-mountain" ski, particularly suited to downhill mountain bike to skibike conversions. They will excite those riders who want to lock into a carve and achieve wheel like stability whilst on edge. They are a great to ride in all soft snow conditions, especially off-piste, those riders who want speed to be their top priority will not be disappointed with theis design of skibike specific skis.
In rigorous testing, right here on this site, they proved themselves to be a capable ski design for all mountain use.

For sale NISM 100cm snow bike skis - for those riders who want to carve

If you have only ever come across SnowBlade™ type skis then these will come as somewhat of a shock; they are considerably wider, giving the impression of being half way point between a normal ski and the snow board type commonly only seen on SnowScoots. I shouldn't have to tell you that these are skis specifically designed for use on a skibike and not as something that goes on your feet. Every aspect of the design is geared towards giving you the sort of riding experience that simply cannot be obtained with regular short skis.

They are fitted with both the standard 40 X 40mm skiboard binding mount pattern, as used on many popular skibike adapter systems and also one suitable for owners of LenzSport skibikes.

For sale NISM 100cm snow bike skis - perfect fo skibike conversions

For their size these NISM skis are amazingly light, we incorrectly assumed that they were foam cored. In reality they are constructed from vertically laminated poplar with a double layer of fibreglass for added strength and a white urethane fill between the wood core and the outside of the ski to protect and waterproof.

NISM 100cm snow bike skis - not skinny "SnowBlade™" style skis

As testament to the extensive nature of our testing process, some light damage has occurred to the top sheet where it caught between the skibike frame and ski. If you are overly concerned about appearances and given the matt nature of the NISM graphics, I would be very tempted to lay on a few coats of paint to match your skibike's colour scheme and be done with.

Please remember these are not skinny "SnowBlade™" style skis, they are wide skibike specific ski boards. I have checked on eBay and elsewhere, nothing like these are currently available in the UK. For Sale - NISM 90cm Skibike Skiboards - Down to £154

Unusually, I am in the position of being able to offer a pair of ex demo NISM 90cm Snow Bike specific skis for sale. Although marketed by NISM skibikes as a "park" ski, particularly suited to BMX skibike conversions, in rigorous testing right here on this site, they proved to be both testers favourite NISM ski design for all mountain use.
Nimble, light and stable they are an absolute joy to ride in all soft snow conditions, whether on or off piste. They earned our top commendations off-piste, by turning any gully into a natural half-pipe to be joyfully exploited to its full potential.

SkiBike Parts For Sale - Footskis with Bindings #1

I knocked up this pair of foot skis a couple of years ago, exactly at the point at which I was making the transition from ski bob style riding to freestyle riding as a plan B in case things didn't work out quite as planned.
As it happened, plan A worked and they never got used, so two years later I am putting them up for sale in the hope they will find a home with a dedicated ski-bobber.

Made from the tips of my ancient 80's Fischer skis, with some brand new old stock bindings from the same period. They are adjustable bindings, so should fit you regardless of boot size and could be useful if you were switching between different riders.

Up for sale in the hope they will find a new home

If you're in a hurry for some cheap foot skis or just not handy enough with tools to make your own I would like £30 for them.

You can collect, or they can be sent out by courier for £10 to most locations in the UK.

SkiBikes, Skis, Snowboards And Other Equipment Sales

It's shaping up to be a very busy pre-Christmas period with a lot on, there's roughly one new skibiker related enquiry each day. This might not sound much, but in previous years it was more like one a month, in relative terms that's a 3000% boost.

Skibike.me.uk - shaping up to be very busy

This site has evolved so rapidly from a simple personal log of my skibing trips and other adventures, into more of a shared resource about European skibiking; to reflect this change the site will be expanding into some new directions.

One new area will be sales related, I have recently created a skibike sales page, which I want to fill with a selection of hard to find "skibike essentials" that are so useful to both old timers and those just getting into the sport.

Footskis - hard to find "skibike essentials"

I also sense that there has also been a pent up demand for a place to carry out private trading of skibikes and skibike parts. For the past three months I have been experimenting with Facebook Groups related to buying and selling and I was pleasantly surprised to find that, bar a few Chinese fake goods spammers, on the whole they are currently an excellent platform for trades. Best of all, they are free to join and completely free to use, whatever you sell will be worth 10% more, as you won't be paying any auction site fees.
To this end I have created a skibike buy/sell/trade group here.

As the observant have already noted, it doesn't mention skibikes in the title, but there is "method in my madness" to this tactic.
Firstly, I am expecting that there will be far more volume for normal ski and snowboard items and with all these groups you badly need volume to reach critical mass. Secondly, I am hoping that by mixing skibikes in with "normal" winter sports equipment, it will help to spread the skibiking word to a larger audience.

If you have a free moment and are on Facebook, follow the link, join the group and see what's on offer.
